Sweetgrass Basket Stand

Description:

Tradition of making baskets from sweetgrass, pine needles, bull rush and palms was brought from Africa to the plantations and became part of Gullah culture. Edisto Island lies within the Gullah Geechie Cultural Heritage Corridor. Local African-American artisans create and sell their baskets from this roadside stand.
